Historic Grand Island

With 25 miles of Pictured Rocks along it’s shoreline and two lighthouses, Grand Island is a designated National Recreation Area and part of the Hiawatha National Forest. It is one-half mile from the mainland of Munising. The name Munising is derived from the Ojibwa word “Minnising”, meaning “Place of the Great Island”, referring to Grand Island.
